Hey guys,
I know it's been a long time between drinks but I've made a solo album,
moved to Melbourne & toured Europe while Caroline has single handedly
dominated the yoga scene in Stanwell Park & Greg has re-DV8-ed. We've been
busy!
But there was much jigzagging above the snow line at the Kosciusko Chalet
last week & we were definitely in form with some new songs. I'm still being
driven nuts by my boyfriend Steve singing the fiddle riff for Greg's 5/4
song "In the Middle"! We had great laid back gigs in the Adams bar most
afternoons with some gentler material & then were fed up with the most
amazing a la carte three course meals (I'm still fantasizing about the mint
pesto encrusted rack of lamb, while Caroline & Steve wont shut up about the
sesame tuna). The evenings were a more rockin' affair down at the Pulpit
Bar- with Greg bringing his beats sampler for a Friday night rave to play
some tunes from The Drive. This gave Steve an opportunity to slap out some
grooves on his djembe & me a very rare opportunity to shake my thang on the
dance floor while Greg & Caroline tranced it out for our final set.
My favourite gigs would have to be those in the kids club where we were
regaled with young Henry's two pancake songs & the funky chickens (a group
of young girls) put on an amazing dance display that they had choreographed
in between bouts on the slopes. "How funky is your chicken, How loose is
your goose, How high can you fly, How low can you go..." We also did some
spontaneous composition with the help of the kids who tested our ability by
offering groups of words like "Terminator, Zombies & Butterfly" & "Mutant
Teddy Bear, Finger & Flower"
Here's a pic of us with Steve & Fiona the executive housekeeper who's
enthusiasm for our music got us the gig in the first place. Behind us is
Australias highest mountain- Kosciusko.
Greg & Caroline turned out to be naturals on the slopes & were up & down the
mountain every day. Greg even nabbed himself a bronze medal in the weekly
downhill sking race! I was not such a natural to my newly aquired snowboard
& ran in fear on Day #2 of lessons when confronted with the poma. Instead
the talented & ever patient Steve took over my tutelage & slowly & very
painfully I learned to stand up & move short distances in roughly the
direction I was aiming! I only fully faceplanted once, though I still can
only stop by sitting down or reaching out & grabbing the snow which isn't
ideal. I don't think I'll be taking part in any extreme videos yet! I did
laugh a lot however & I am hooked- there's always next year....
So it was with sadness that we left behind a lot of new friends & a place
that had begun to feel like home (not to mention four giant paper cranes
made by Steve out of paper tablecloths & also a few Jigzag CD's that had new
owners). We did however take home lots of great memories of crisp white snow
& that creme brulee...
I'll leave you with a pic of another new friend that Steve & I whipped up on
our penultimate day- Fat Beats the Snow Man.
...oh & remember handy hint No. 13. Never ask your 3-year old brother to
hold a tomato.
